Confederacy opened in October 2008, and is the brainchild of childhood pals actor/DJ Danny Masterson and Ilaria Urbinati - celebrity stylist and former buyer for Satine, Milk, & Laura Urbinati - and in collaboration with their friend, business mogul Aly Mawji.
The 5,000 square foot space includes womens' and mens' ready-to-wear departments, accessories, specialty books & gifts, a perfumerie; as well as a gallery space currently featuring the works of Sage Vaughn. Our previous roster includes artists such as Alex Prager, James Gooding, Mercedes Helnwein, Eric Ray Davidson, plus the etchings of Julian Schnabel, Francis Bacon, and Francesco Clemente.
The space, inspired by New York, Americana, and the 1940's, was designed by Ben Shulman and Mariah O'Brien Interiors. It features original 16-foot ceilings, refurbished brick walls, tin-and-wood beam ceilings, a "shoe living room", a late fifties/early sixties inspired "Tea Room" for private fittings, and vintage telephone booths as dressing rooms. These antique phones that dial the front desk so customers can ask for a size without ever having to leave their room. There's also an outdoor courtyard between the women's and men's store.
Our staff uniforms are specially designed each season. This season, our current uniform was designed by Shipley and Halmos. In the past our uniforms were designed by Rag & Bone.
The store is named Confederacy after the book Confederacy of Dunces, and is the first of its kind in the area of Los Feliz/Silverlake.
